Award for the Best Master's Thesis in the Architecture Program
This year, Ms. Güllü Özlem Cakmak was awarded for the best design. She focused on the Carl-Overbeck-Haus in Essen, which was largely destroyed during World War II. Ms. Cakmak developed a possible redesign of the existing building into a hotel with a spa and thermal area while preserving the existing structural integrity.
"It was a pleasure to work with Ms. Cakmak, and I am delighted to be able to appropriately recognize her achievement," expressed Prof. Georg Giebeler.
Ms. Aslihan Sancak-Müjde was nominated for the best master's thesis on the topic 'Glass Manufacturing Facilities - Success Factors and Value of Publicly Accessible Production Sites.' In her work, the student explored potential success factors and the added value of publicly accessible production facilities while considering and elaborating on architectural transparency. She analyzed the added value for companies and visitors, as well as the factors that contribute to a successful publicly accessible production site, through case studies, expert interviews, and visitor surveys.
"I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Ing. Busch, who supervised my master's thesis, and to all the architecture professors involved for their excellent guidance and constructive feedback. Throughout my entire studies, I have felt very comfortable and supported," said Ms. Aslihan Sancak-Müjde. The certificates were presented along with a printed, personalized brick as a symbol of this architectural achievement.
The nomination for the best master's theses was introduced by the Faculty of Architecture for the summer semester of 2021. Going forward, the award will be continued as part of the Master's graduation ceremonies. Prof. Ulrich Königs and his team from the Chair of Construction and Design organized and conducted this celebration this year as well.
