Building in the digital age: NRW Ministry invites to congress at Bergische Universität

11.08.2023|14:13 Uhr

Under the motto "Arrived in practice: experience BIM, use BIM", the BIM Congress NRW 2023 of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Building and Digitalisation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia will take place at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal on Wednesday, 30 August. The acronym BIM stands for Building Information Modelling, a method of mapping buildings using a consistent, digital building model over their entire life cycle with all relevant information, networking all those involved and working together collaboratively. The aim is to make the right information available at the right time, to optimise processes and to enable smooth planning, construction and operation.

Since the BIM Institute at Bergische Universität has already been conducting research for the NRW Ministry on the topic of BIM in municipal construction administration for several years, and has developed a training concept and a BIM recommendation for action, Wuppertal is predestined to host the congress. In addition to the presentation of successfully implemented BIM projects by municipalities for municipalities and experience reports on the strategic introduction of BIM in municipal administrations, the participants of the congress can discover BIM labs on the topics of digital building documentation, municipal construction project management as well as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) during the breaks.

Innovation path shows solutions for practice

In addition, digital innovations and tools for planning and execution can be explored as part of the innovation path - an exhibition accompanying the congress. The practice partners Allplan, brz, Dalux, Solibri, madaster and smino will present solutions that support municipalities in planning and realising their construction projects more efficiently.

As the client of a large number of very different municipal projects, the municipality plays a central role in the digitalisation of the construction and real estate industry. Around 200 decision-makers from municipal building administrations, municipal building management and building inspectorates are therefore expected to attend the congress. In addition to University Rector Birgitta Wolff, Minister Ina Scharrenbach will personally open the congress.
