The guests and the invited experts were welcomed by the central Equal Opportunities Officer of the BUW, Prof. Dr Brigitte Halbfas, the decentralised Equal Opportunities Officer of Faculty 5, Prof. Dr Anica Meins-Becker, and the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr Christoph Grafe.

More than 60 interested participants attended the opening of the BUW-Baulöwinnen exhibition to discuss gender equality measures in the construction industry with the experts. The invited experts were: Civil engineer Sarah Kosmann (initiator of "Frau liebt Bau" and member of the board of IK-Bau NRW), architect and author Karin Hartmann (book "Schwarzer Rolli, Hornbrille"), Jun. Prof. Maya Alam (LuF Theory and Discourse of Design at the BUW), architect Geske Houtrouw (Managing Director of talk and member of the Architektinneninitiative NRW) and environmental engineer Dr Cornelia Kalender (entrepreneur and research assistant at the Ruhr University Bochum).

As part of the event's supporting programme, a workshop of the "Queering the City" project was held in advance, initiated by students of the BUW Master Public Interest Design course. This illustrated how gender and diversity can be taken into account in the construction industry.

At the end of the event and as a conclusion from the expert panel discussion, two findings became particularly clear: equality measures should focus on structural and social inequalities and we should ask ourselves the question more often: Who are we actually building for?
