Dr. Ulrich Montag becomes an honorary professor

The Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ulrich Montag, a renowned expert in fire safety, as an honorary professor. This recognition acknowledges Mr. Montag's dedicated work in teaching and research for the faculty.
Dr. Ulrich Montag is recognized as an expert in comprehensive fire protection planning. This includes assessing fire protection for existing buildings, creating fire safety reports and engineering justifications, conducting fire protection simulations, and developing evacuation plans. Dr. Montag is a civil engineer specializing in structural engineering and works as a state-certified expert for fire protection inspections in a medium-sized engineering firm. His list of publications underscores his exceptional scholarly reputation.
Study Dean Prof. Dr.-Ing. Arndt Goldack emphasizes that the faculty, through the appointment of the honorary professorship, can further develop and advance the subject of planning and structural fire protection in structural engineering. "This is important, as building regulations are constantly changing. We are now very well positioned in this area, keeping up with the latest developments and responding accordingly,' said Prof. Dr.-Ing. Arndt Goldack.
The topic of fire protection is not universally included in the undergraduate civil engineering curriculum. The course offerings at the University of Wuppertal have a unique feature in this regard, bridging the gap from the scientific foundations of fire protection to its practical implementation. Professor Goldack puts it in this context: "This is very attractive for students and provides a qualification advantage because it allows them to distinguish themselves from other applicants, for instance, when applying to engineering firms."
