Anniversary Exhibition 'KunstGewerk' Tells a 125-Year History of Building and Architecture

In addition to the 50th anniversary of the University of Wuppertal, the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering also has a reason to celebrate this year. This is because in 1897, 125 years ago, the 'Royal Prussian School of Building Trades Barmen-Elberfeld' was founded as its predecessor institution. The faculty is commemorating this unique anniversary by illustrating its development through an exhibition, which will be inaugurated on Wednesday, June 1st, at 6:00 PM in the Kastanienhof on the Haspel Campus.

Architecture students provide an intriguing glimpse into the history, the buildings, and life on the Haspel Campus through a collection of original historical documents, visual materials, and self-written articles. 'The exhibition presents a historical timeline of the evolution from the School of Building Trades to the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, along with memories of individuals and events from the history of the faculty,' explained Prof. Dr. Christoph Grafe from the Chair of Architecture Theory and History.

The exhibition serves as a place of remembrance. As part of a brief film presentation by the Department of Architecture, attendees will get a glimpse into 125 years of construction and architecture. In a short and engaging format, visitors are invited to explore, read, and share little anecdotes.

"We are delighted to be able to report on the 125-year history of the Haspel Campus in this manner. My thanks go to all those who made this exhibition possible," says Prof. Dr. Bernd Naujoks, Dean of the Faculty.

The exhibition will be accessible to visitors without prior registration at various locations on the Haspel Campus during regular opening hours following the opening ceremony, and it will remain open until the end of the year. Admission is free. 'The exhibition goes beyond the collected materials and guides visitors through the actual locations,' says Christoph Grafe. However, one can also experience it in small doses by casually encountering its contents in the everyday university life.
