New in the faculty: 3D printer for clay from WASP

A new tool has been added to the TWL laboratory and workshop of Prof. Heinrich Weid in the basement of the HB building. Before her departure, Deputy Prof. Sabina Hauers took care of the procurement of a 3D printer for clay and loam, so that a device of the type "Delta WASP 2040 Clay" is now available for various experiments.

Viscous mineral materials can be processed in a circular installation space (⌀ = 200 mm, h = 400 mm) with the help of a screw extruder and compressed air. This is done at room temperature. The control is carried out via already known interfaces for common FDM/FFF printers by means of G-code, which can be generated by tools such as Rhino/Grasshopper or slicer programs such as Cura. This makes it possible to print existing 3D models as well as to create individual tool paths.

The contact person for the clay printer is Theo Hannig (theo.hannig[at]uni-wuppertal.de) at Prof. Heinrich Weid's Department of Representation and Design, and Alec Singh (asingh[at]uni-wuppertal.de, Department of Structural Engineering and Building Construction) is available for technical questions.
