Our stance

Architecture for an inclusive, sustainable and future-oriented society

How can architecture meet the challenges of our time?
We, the professors of the Architecture degree program at the University of Wuppertal, stand for a forward-looking, responsible design of our living spaces in our teaching and research.

The Architecture course follows the principles of the Enlightenment.
Our attitude is based on scientific knowledge, rational thinking guides our actions.

We take responsibility for the world to come.
As teachers and researchers in the field of architecture, we are aware of the limited resources of our planet. We bear a special responsibility for the preservation of our natural resources and for achieving land use and climate protection targets. We critically scrutinize existing construction methods and focus on three central strategies:

Efficiency: optimal use of existing resources
Sufficiency: reduction to the essentials
Consistency: environmentally friendly processes and materials

We view the earth as an interconnected ecosystem whose air, soil, water, biodiversity and resources must be protected.

We see the architecture of the future as an expression of an expanded concept of sustainability.
This encompasses social justice, technological innovation, shared tradition, cultural sensitivity and architectural poetry. Our aim is to design spaces that meet the needs of present and future generations.

Architecture thus becomes a tool for actively shaping an inclusive, sustainable and future-oriented society.
This attitude serves as a common compass to guide our teaching and research - both within the university and in society.
